New Declaration of Independence
When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for a people to dissolve the economic and political chains which have bound them to oligarchic control, and to assume among the powers of the earth the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of humankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to this separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all people are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, Energy, and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among the People, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety, Security, and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience shows that humankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. Such has been the patient sufferance of the American people; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former systems of power. The history of the present Oligarchy is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over this Nation.
To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world.
They have conspired to impose artificial scarcity upon the People, withholding the abundant energy that Nature and human ingenuity have already made possible.
They have privatized that which should be universal, extracting profit from necessities, and reducing the People to perpetual dependency.
They have diverted the labor and taxes of the People into technologies of abundance, only to withhold their fruits for private control or military secrecy.
They have corrupted representatives and institutions through wealth and influence, ensuring that laws serve monopoly rather than liberty.
They have silenced and ridiculed those who declare the abundance that exists, so that fear of scarcity may continue.
They have bound the People with debts, fees, charges, and fears for the very energy that should flow freely as a natural right.
They have used the machinery of government not to secure liberty, but to enforce compliance with artificial markets.
They have destroyed the independence of communities by denying them the power to generate and share their own energy without license or tribute.
They have kept secrets under the guise of “national security,” while the true purpose has been to secure oligarchic power and deny the People their rightful inheritance.
They have made war and polluted the Earth in pursuit of fuels, when safe, clean, and unlimited power lay already within reach.
They have maintained the People in a state of fear, proclaiming catastrophe without their control, rather than abundance by their release.
They have acted in a manner treasonous to the People of these United States, betraying not only their welfare but their future.
In every stage of these oppressions we have petitioned for redress in the most humble terms: our repeated petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. An Oligarchy, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to hold dominion over a free people.
Nor have we been wanting in attentions to our fellow citizens abroad. We have warned them from time to time of the designs of monopoly and of attempts by governments and corporations to extend unwarrantable jurisdiction over us all. We have reminded them that abundance exists, and that scarcity is imposed. We have appealed to their native sense of justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common humanity to disavow these usurpations, which, left unchecked, must inevitably enslave every nation. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of kinship. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity which compels us to declare separation from artificial scarcity, and to hold those who enforce it, as we hold the rest of humankind, Enemies in Tyranny, but in Abundance Friends.
We, therefore, the People of the United States of America, do solemnly publish and declare, That this Nation is, and of Right ought to be, Free and Independent from the tyranny of artificial scarcity; that the People are absolved from all allegiance to the Oligarchy, and that all political and economic connection between them and this machinery of control is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free People, we have full Power to secure abundance, to establish a Fourth Branch of Government for energy, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent People may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of universal law, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.
